The Domain Architect – Digital is a member of the Value Retail IT Solutions team, reporting to the IT Solutions Director and working closely with the IT leadership group, project teams and business leaders.

The Domain Architect – Digital will be driven by a passion for creating quality technology solutions to challenging business problems. You will use a variety of architectural techniques and extensive experience building and integrating solutions in back office settings to collaborate with interested parties, foster a shared understanding and assure the quality of solution architecture. The role must set the standard for architectural contribution to solution design and is critical to the overall delivery of the IT investment Programmes.

The role will work with business leaders, internal teams, and 3rd party partners to build solutions and products as well as iteratively improve the overall effectiveness of Value Retail back office systems. The role will be critical to maintaining momentum in the workplace investment programme and will play an increasingly significant role in forming programme objectives and developing the three-year planning horizon.

The role will create and maintain high quality artefacts and support the development of the overall enterprise architecture capability including chairing and contributing to technology governance.

What you will be doing

• Develop an understanding of the evolving business needs and ensure architecture delivery is aligned to meet these operational and strategic goals
• Build a comprehensive understanding of the entire back office environment over time, producing clear, unambiguous, and maintainable artefacts for its ongoing management
• Work within the principles, standards, policies and guidelines that inform the selection, development, and implementation of technology across the enterprise
• Maintain a strong awareness of current and emerging trends, architectural techniques, and technology advancements – provide thought leadership
• Work at a programme and project level to assure and deliver the end to end functional and technical outcomes of solution design / development
• Ensure standards, service continuity and security policies are observed to manage risk associated with data, applications, and infrastructure
• Advise and mentor diverse teams, which include business and partner resources, in technical and functional aspects of project deliverables, technology standards and design assurance processes
• Provide guidance on best practices and related functional and technical solution design
• Manage expectations; negotiate solutions to complex problems with both the business and partners
• At a project level, own the solution architecture and provide technical design leadership
• Own technical design, delegating to third parties where appropriate and ensure non-functional requirements are considered throughout
• Maintain the integrity of all relevant technologies by providing technical authority and guidance for the backlogs driving change
• Ensure alignment with larger VR data, application, technical and infrastructure architecture intent
• Understand and communicate technology risks, challenges, and opportunities
• Create / maintain the Workplace Architecture and Design documentation
• Maintain effective management of technical debt
• Critique and recommend improvements to technical proposal
• Support overall programme planning / control and delivery of technical components
• Design technical testing solutions and QA processes
• Assist with the definition of project requirements
• Support Technical and IT Support Service design and transition where appropriate

• Extensive experience as a technical architect delivering solutions to a range of stakeholders
• A proven ability to establish standards for secure and robust solutions and their management
• Technology breadth across domains including data, application, infrastructure, security and integration including back office systems, server infrastructure, virtualisation, public cloud, operational management
• Solid understanding of back office business processes, risks and priorities including Finance, Lease management, HR, Legal, Facilities Management, Sustainability etc and associated application dependencies
• Advanced experience across complex and diverse technologies that include: Microsoft Azure; IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS, Microsoft 365, PowerBI and SQL Data Warehouse, SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle Fusion, ServiceNow, Salesforce
• Good understanding of the EA frameworks (e.g. TOGAF, Zachman), having applied one or more of these frameworks in practice
• Good understanding of security frameworks and accepted standards for secure infrastructure (e.g. NIST 800-53, CIS etc) along with a solid awareness of privacy related matters arising from GDPR and similar regulation
• Demonstrable track record ensuring alignment between business and IT in solution design through comprehensive, unambiguous content and engagement
• Ability to work at all levels and explore / deliver technical solutions to operational problems
• Ability to articulate complex, technical solutions to a wide variety of business audiences
• Ability to be on site in Bicester Village 2 days a week
